Burke's Microbead Ban First in Nation

When billions of plastic microbeads were set to pollute Lake Erie, I pushed for a microbead ban in Erie County. Not only did it pass, but it sparked a federal ban to protect America's water supply. We are a community that was founded on its water. Our past, present, and future depends on the health and continuance of this vital resource.

Opposing Great Lakes Funding Cuts

The Great Lakes are the single greatest source of surface freshwater in the world. When federal cuts were set to reduce funding for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative by 90%, I introduced a resolution to oppose it.  These funds contribute to supporting eco-tourism in the region as well as drinking water protections, eliminating sewer overflows, and recreational fishing. They are absolutely vital to our way of life. Clean water should not be a partisan issue. It is a common sense issue.
